I am in a quandary, I find this article horrific and compelling at the same time especially as I have seen this Pulitzer prize winning photograph many times and have never known the true events that led up to this awful moment in time caught by Eddie Adams.
Like many I have misinterpreted this image as a terrible act on the innocent. Now that I have read the story behind the image I still find it very disturbing but the photography no longer has the same context to me. For me, this shows how a photograph can be misinterpreted and used in a semi-propaganda manner by many because it suits the occasion.
This article is very thought provoking and I wonder how many other famous photos we would see in a different light if we knew the true story behind the photograph rather than just taking it at face value.
